The San Diego Chapter has endorsed this initiative and urge our member’s to sign the initiative to qualify for the ballot.

The purpose of the Safeguard Our San Diego Countryside Initiative is to preserve the character and integrity of the region’s countryside. The initiative would impose a voter approval requirement for County General Plan amendments that increase residential density in semi-rural and rural areas, with certain exceptions, and would enact other policies that support sound land use.

We’re mailing and delivering petitions – to signature gatherers as far away as Anza-Borrego and Descanso – to as close as Oceanside, Escondido and downtown San Diego.   Are you new to signature gathering? Questions on the SOS petition?

We will provide you all the important rules and information – and helpful tips to be effective.

Below are locations to pick up new petitions and return completed ones.

Please don’t hesitate to call me for anyway I can assist you – 858-231-0156

This initiative will

  • Ensure that the San Diego County General Plan continues to safeguard the County’s unique and diverse environmental resources.
  • Address the fact that developers have recently proposed controversial amendments to the General Plan that would significantly increase the density of development outside of existing towns and villages.
  • Provide San Diego County residents with the power to approve revisions to the General Plan that would allow more intense residential development in rural and semi-rural areas.
  • Allow the County and its communities to continue to accommodate housing need, especially within village and rural village boundaries.
  • Ensure that other General Plan policies related to Specific Plan Areas and density transfers cannot be used to circumvent the voter approval requirement.
