Sierra Club Endorsements

March 3, 2020 Primary Election

Sierra Club San Diego’s Political Committee made a number of important endorsements. The committee evaluated past environmental records of candidates, completed questionnaires and interviews in making these endorsements

We urge you to consider the environment when you vote. Only by electing candidates who share the view of the Sierra Club on the importance of the protection of the environment can we make our state the model for the rest of the nation.

Sierra Club San Diego’s tax exemption status – 501(c)(4) – allows us to make endorsements for candidates and ballot measures.

YES MEASURE A – Amendments to the San Diego County General Plan
Measure A would require a vote of the people for any change to the County General Plan, ending backroom deals that sell out rural, agricultural and backcountry areas.

NOMEASURE B – Newland Sierra Amendments to the San Diego County General Plan
Measure B would change the County General Plan to allow the Newland Sierra development north of Escondido to build 2130 homes and 81,000 sq ft of commercial space in a rural high fire zone area currently zoned for 100 homes.  This mega-development would add 6,000 residents without adequate transit, water & sewer.
