Bicycle Section of the Sierra Club Ride Calendar

This is a partial listing of our outings. The complete list along with our trips and social events is available to all members. See Membership Form. All outings listed are free of charge and open to public participation unless otherwise noted. If weather is questionable, contact the leader.

REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDES: Helmet, water, spare tube, pump and patch kit.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.


Ride List for April 2019

April 2 – TUESDAY
TACO TUESDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills, 10-12 mph average pace.
This relatively flat 25 mi ride starts at 10:30 am track-side of the Coaster at the Oceanside Transit Center and ends at the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station at around 1:45 pm. Most participants will drive to the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station (free parking) arriving at about 9:30 am to provide enough time to take Coaster #639 north-bound at 9:48 am which arrives at the Oceanside Transit Center at 10:23 am. April 7 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Hao Zhang, 858-354-3904.

April 7 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY INLAND AND COAST JR EXPRESS
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:45 am at the Carmel Valley Park and Ride lot located at 12791 Sorrento Valley Rd just west of I-5 for a 35-40 mi ride through Del Mar, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Carlsbad and return. Snack stop near end of ride. Leader: Tom Carr, .

April 14 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Carol Carr, .

April 14 – SUNDAY
ROUTE 56 JUNIOR EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, rolling hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:45 am at De Anza Cove in Mission Bay Park for a 40 mi Junior Express ride north through the UCSD campus to the Route 56 bike path and back along Black Mtn. Rd. There will be a snack stop. April 21 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Lynn Reaser, 619-255-6819.

April 21 – SUNDAY
LAKE MURRAY LAKESIDE JUNIOR EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:45 am at the upper parking lot at Lake Murray for a 37 mi ride for this NEW ROUTE. We will go through El Cajon, Rancho San Diego, Lakeside and Santee. April 28 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Ron Manherz, 858-587-0272.

April 28 – SUNDAY
OLYMPIC – OTAY EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Last offering of the season for this route along Harbor Dr to Chula Vista, the Olympic Training center, Otay Lakes road and Bonita bike path. Expect 50 mi of rolling hills, some climbing (1 mi at 4.6% grade is the longest), and nice downhill rewards. Snack stop Downtown. Meet at 8:30 am at the Old Town Transit Center off Taylor and PCH. Park in the big lot at the north-west end. Rain cancels. Leader: Dawn Nowlin, 858-254-8171.
