Bicycle Section of the Sierra Club Ride Calendar

This is a partial listing of our outings. The complete list along with our trips and social events is available to all members. See Membership Form. All outings listed are free of charge and open to public participation unless otherwise noted. If weather is questionable, contact the leader.

REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDES: Helmet, water, spare tube, pump and patch kit.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.


Ride list for January 2018

January 7 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Marty Hambright, 858-587-0272.

January 7 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park for a 40 mi ride north, then inland as conditions permit. Rain cancels. Leader: David Johnson, 858-483-5877.

January 14 – SUNDAY

Meet at 8:30 am at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park for a 42 mi ride north, then inland as conditions permit. Rain cancels. Leader: David Johnson, 858-483-5877.

January 15 – MONDAY
COAST RIDE – OCEANSIDE TO SORRENTO VALLEY
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills, 10-12 mph average pace.
This relatively flat 25 mi ride starts at 10:50 am track-side of the Coaster at the Oceanside Transit Center and ends at the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station at around 1:30 pm. Most participants will drive to the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station (free parking) arriving at about 9:50 am to provide enough time to take Coaster #639 north-bound at 10:09 am which arrives at the Oceanside Transit Center at 10:43 am. January 21 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Jerry Fitzsimmons, 858-224-3437, .

January 21 – SUNDAY
CARMEL VALLEY-RANCHO SANTA FE EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am at the Carmel Valley Park ‘n Ride for a 43 mi ride. We will go up Carmel Mtn Rd over to Del Mar Mesa Rd, and through Rancho Santa Fe. Snack stop on the way back. Leader: Myles Pomeroy, 858-565-7262.

January 28 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Lynn Reaser, 619-255-6819.

January 28 – SUNDAY
COMMUNITY JR EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Dr. We’ll head inland to explore neighborhood communities of Carmel Valley, Sabre Springs, Poway and more along the 56 bike path for a ~35 mi loop. Bring plenty of water and some snacks. Call if there is a chance of rain; true rain cancels. Leader: Dawn Nowlin, 858-254-8171.
