Bicycle Section of the Sierra Club Ride Calendar

This is a partial listing of our outings. The complete list along with our trips and social events is available to all members. See Membership Form. All outings listed are free of charge and open to public participation unless otherwise noted. If weather is questionable, contact the leader.

REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDES: Helmet, water, spare tube, pump and patch kit.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.


Ride List for March 2019

February 24 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Lynn Reaser, 619-255-6819.

February 24 – SUNDAY
COMMUNITY EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Dr. for a ~50 mi ride with ~2300 feet of ascent. We’ll head inland to explore neighborhood communities of Carmel Valley, Sabre Springs, Poway and Rancho Bernardo with a stop at the R.Bernardo Winery. Return path is along the 56 bike path. March 3 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Allen Ramrus, 858-245-1643.

March 5 – TUESDAY
TACO TUESDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills, 10-12 mph average pace.
This relatively flat 25 mi ride starts at 10:30 am track-side of the Coaster at the Oceanside Transit Center and ends at the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station at around 1:45 pm. Most participants will drive to the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station (free parking) arriving at about 9:30 am to provide enough time to take Coaster #639 north-bound at 9:48 am which arrives at the Oceanside Transit Center at 10:23 am. March 10 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5. March 10 – SUNDAY
OLYMPIC – OTAY EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Spring your clocks ahead to meet at 8:15 am at the Old Town Transit Center off Taylor and PCH. Park in the big lot at the west end. We’ll ride ~53 mi south along Harbor Dr to Chula Vista, past the Olympic Training center and onto Otay Lakes road and Bonita bike path. Some climbing (1 mi at 4.6% grade is the longest), rolling hills and some nice downhill. Snack stop Downtown. Rain cancels so call if uncertain. Leader: Dawn Nowlin, 858-254-8171.

March 14 – THURSDAY
IDES OF MARCH PIZZA RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills, 10-12 mph average pace.

March 17 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY INLAND AND COAST JR EXPRESS
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:45 am at the Carmel Valley Park and Ride lot located at 12791 Sorrento Valley Rd just west of I-5 for a 35-40 mi ride. Heading South to UCSD via the Genesee bridge South to the new Gilman arched bridge over I-5 to UTC area. Head back north for tour through Del Mar Mesa, Carmel Valley, Fairbanks Ranch and return. March 21 – THURSDAY
RIDE AROUND TOWN
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, basically flat, 10-12 mph average pace.
Meet at 10 am at Christmas Circle in the center of the Borrego Springs for this flat ride that goes around the Borrego Springs area. Although flat, we may have some wind. We will see the metal sculptures created by artist/welder Ricardo Breceda. Many depict animals that roamed the valley floor thousands of years ago. Bring plenty of snacks and water. March 22 – FRIDAY
TAMARISK GROVE LOOP RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
This ride to the Tamarisk Grove Campground departs from the Borrego Springs Resort at 9:00 am. WeÆll take Borrego Springs Road south to Yaqui Pass Road which makes a long, continuous ascent to the summit. We drop quickly after that to Tamarisk Grove campground where we will enjoy a snack in the shade. We return to the Inn on route 78 which intersects with Borrego Springs Road 9 mi east of the Campground. Bring lots of water. Use lots of sunscreen. The full ride is 31 mi long. March 24 – SUNDAY

March 24 – SUNDAY
ROUTE 56 JUNIOR EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, rolling hills, 14-16 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:45 am at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park for a 43 mi Junior Express ride up the coast, then east on the Route 56 bike path, and back along Black Mtn. Rd. There will be a snack stop. March 31 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5.
