Bicycle Section of the Sierra Club Ride Calendar

This is a partial listing of our outings. The complete list along with our trips and social events is available to all members. See Membership Form. All outings listed are free of charge and open to public participation unless otherwise noted. If weather is questionable, contact the leader.

REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDES: Helmet, water, spare tube, pump and patch kit.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.


Ride List for February 2017

February 5 – SUNDAY
NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am at the Carmel Valley Community Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, across the street from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, 1/2 mi E of I-5. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Ellen Scott, 619-405-4819.

February 5 – SUNDAY
LAKE MURRAY/ ALPINE LOOP
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, steep grade(s), 10-12 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am in the upper parking lot at Lake Murray, via the Kiowa Dr. entrance, for this 46 mi ride to Alpine. Come prepared for lots of hills and steep climbs. Bring a snack. Call first if it might rain. Leader: Mark Ginsburg, 858-722-1992.

February 12 – SUNDAY

Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.

MISSION BAY EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, moderate hills, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park for a 40 mi ride north, then inland as conditions permit. Rain cancels. Leader: David Johnson, 858-483-5877.

February 19 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Marty Hambright, 858-587-0272.

February 19 – SUNDAY
ROUTE 56 EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, rolling hills, 14-16 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park for a 43 mi ride up coast, then east on Route 56 bike path, and back along Black Mtn. Rd. Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, call ride leader in morning. Leader: Myles Pomeroy, 619-246-1893.

February 26 – SUNDAY
MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE
Difficulty Rating: 21 to 35 mi, rolling hills.
On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride. Leader: Lynn Reaser, 619-255-6819.

February 26 – SUNDAY
CORONADO JR. EXPRESS RIDE
Difficulty Rating: over 35 mi, basically flat, 12-14 mph average pace.
Meet at 8:30 am in the De Anza Cove parking lot of Mission Bay Park for a 41 mi ride to Coronado island. We’ll make a brief stop at Chicano Park which was recently named a National Historic Landmark for its murals then continue onto the Bayshore Bikeway and Silver Strand. Bring $4.75 cash or payment card for ferry ride back to the mainland. Rain cancels. If weather is questionable, call ride leader. Leader: Dawn Nowlin, 858-254-8171.
